01 · In brief

Two vocations, one throughline.

Sanjiv Chopra came to the United States from India in 1972 and has been on the faculty of Harvard Medical School since 1979. A hepatologist by training, he served for twelve years as Faculty Dean for Continuing Medical Education at Harvard and served as the Marshall Wolf Distinguished Clinician Educator at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He is Editor-in-Chief of the hepatology section of UpToDate, the electronic textbook of medicine subscribed to by some two million clinicians in 195 countries.

Alongside that career he became a sought-after speaker. Drawing on medicine, history, and the lives of great leaders, he lectures on leadership, healthy living, and the pursuit of a joy-filled life. With his brother Deepak he wrote the double memoir Brotherhood, the story of two immigrants who took very different paths into medicine.
